Cleveland State University Fire and Ems Continuing Education
Overview
Overview
Cleveland Clinic Akron General's Paramedic Education Program was initiated in 1976 as a commitment to the community in providing pre-hospital care to citizens within Summit County and adjoining areas. Since then, the program has graduated more than 1,400 paramedics, most still practicing within the Summit County area. The program is housed under Cleveland Clinic Akron General's Department of Medical Education.
We offer two Paramedic courses per year and three EMT courses per year at our Cleveland Clinic Akron General Campus. We also offer a Paramedic course in Wayne County at The University of Akron Wayne College, as well as an EMT course at The University of Akron Medina County University Center. For more information about these courses, please find the appropriate tabs at the top of the web page.
The program is accredited by the Ohio Department of Public Safety, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), and the Committee on Accreditation of Education Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). Our program was the first hospital-based program in Ohio and the 72 in the Country to obtain CAAHEP National Certification in 1991.
The University of Akron's College of Health and Human Sciences formed an Articulation Agreement with Cleveland Clinic Akron General to provide eligible paramedic graduates the opportunity to transfer thirty academic credit hours towards the Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Services Technology Degree. This opportunity is available to all program graduates with a graduation date of 1985 or later. Both our EMT and Paramedic courses are found on the University of Akron's course offerings.
